Massage ??

Weekends are best spent rewarding yourself after five days of mind-numbing work. So you have decided to try out the spa that everybody seems to be talking about these days, huh? Problem is, you are such a noob that you don’t know the first thing to ask for in these kinds of establishments. Prevent any awkward moments by knowing firsthand what you’re getting yourself into when going to the spa. Here are a few of the basic massage services that a spa provides:If this is the first time you will have a massage, I would suggest you try out the swedish massage first. It is the best kind of massage to baptize a newbie with. It is very relaxing and relieving. Mostly it is just a gentle kneading of the muscles done in smooth, circular strokes.

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage in which a massage therapist makes use of the finger pads to make localized pressure points all over your body. In layman’s terms: there will be finger-poking. There might even be pain. But it will be a good kind of pain.

Thai massage is different from the first two since for this kind of massage, you won’t just get to lie in there. The massage therapist will stretch the entire length of your body. This may include pulling your fingers and toes, cracking your knuckles, and yes, there might even be some walking done on your back. It’s like you are doing yoga but it is the massage therapist who does all the work!

A hot stone massage, as the name implies, makes use of pre-heated stones. It requires the therapist to place smooth, hot stones, all over your body. The heat coming off from the stones will help relax and loosen up any tight muscles and knots before the actual massage begins.

A deep tissue massage is a type of therapy that relieves stiff necks or sore shoulders. Many of the techniques employed in the swedish massage are also used in deep tissue. However, the therapist’s movements are much slower and more intense. Unlike swedish which is used to massage the neck, shoulders, and the back, a deep tissue massage is focused only on problem areas.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese alternative medicine, in which needles are inserted to your body so that qi (life force) can flow throughout the body. You may experience a slight, abrupt pain when the needles are pinpricked into the body, but that’s about it.

There are a host of other massage treatments that are not covered here. I would suggest you try everything at least once and then decide which one works the best for you. Better get that first massage before the next work week starts, because trust me: you’ll be better off with it.

Stay relaxed!
