AirBnB Rent from people in over 34,000 cities and 192 countries

If a huge chunk of your travel expenses goes a lot to overpriced hotels and other costly accommodations, then you should consider cheaper alternatives when making your travelling plans.

In recent years, the hype over couch-surfing, the social networking site that enables you to get to use someone else’s couch during your travels, has somewhat died down. But it has been replaced by the phenomenon that is airbnb. Airbnb is a crowd-sourced online platform that allows people to put up their places, whether it be houses or spare rooms for other users to stay in. You can rent an apartment, a house or just a spare room. Guests book and pay hosts a nightly fee that is set up in advance. The site’s tagline, “Travel like a human,” conveys the impression that you as a traveler can enjoy an intimate, more homey living accommodations within real homes in lieu of impersonal hotel rooms.

So it’s a win-win situation for both the traveler and the host, where the former gets to cut costs in his travel expenses and the latter gets to earn extra cash. Security is not a question because profiles are set up to ensure that people are who they say they are, and there is also a review system in place to weed out both the bad guests and hosts.

The good thing about airbnb is that you get to meet new, interesting people who love to host, and stay at really beautiful homes. So you get to stay somewhere other than a boring hotel for the same price or less.

The bad thing is some homes aren’t very clean, and unlike hotel rooms, which are always tidy because of the dedicated housekeeping staff, you will have to clean up after yourself. Sometimes you have to share a bathroom, and then there are some hosts who are obviously doing it just for the money but they clearly don’t want you to be there.

There are both advantages and disadvantages in using airbnb, but it does give the budget traveler a choice when it comes to choosing his travel accommodations.

I know you find this useful!
